Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has officially expanded its electric van line-up with the launch of the ID. Buzz Cargo Long Wheelbase (LWB).
Available to order now in Germany, followed by UK orders in early 2027, it will be available with the 86kWh battery and either rear-wheel-drive (286hp) or all-wheel-drive (340hp) configurations.
Joining the standard wheelbase version, the LWB variant stretches the cargo area by 250mm to a total interior length of 2,458mm. This brings more flexible stowage space and boosts overall cargo volume by 0.5m³ to a total of 4.4m³. The width between the wheel housings remains 1,230mm.
In contrast to the standard ID. Buzz Cargo, the LWB will come with a second sliding door as standard. This side door is 19cm wider than the standard model, allowing a standard Euro pallet to be loaded sideways with ease. It’s also equipped with a wooden floor.
The new ID. Buzz Cargo LWB also delivers increased towing capacity of up to 1,800kg (braked on 8% and 12% gradients). Depending on the drive system, the maximum payload is up to 700kg (RWD) or 606kg (AWD).
As usual, the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB is available as a two- or three-seater and now also includes manually adjustable lumbar support.
The Cargo LWB also brings heavily enhanced functions that roll out to all new ID. Buzz models.
Equipped with the latest ID. software, the Cargo offers advanced driver assistance, including a new Travel Assist feature that automatically brakes for red traffic lights.
Also new is one-pedal driving that enables full deceleration and regenerative braking to a dead stop using only the accelerator pedal.
The new software generation also introduces the vehicle-to-load function to the ID. Buzz Cargo. Drivers can power heavy-duty external tools, such as circular saws, directly from the 86kWh high-voltage battery. Using a ‘PowerSocket’ adapter plugged into the vehicle’s charging port, it delivers up to 3.0kW of continuous power (3.6kW peak) via either a standard domestic Schuko plug or a CEE 230V camping socket.
Other changes across the ID. Buzz line-up include an improved operating concept with buttons on the steering wheel to make it easier to operate important vehicle, cockpit and infotainment functions.
This is complemented by the new Innovision infotainment system with an extended app store for downloading media, parking and gaming applications.
Pre-sales for the large ID. Buzz Cargo are open now in Germany, starting at €50,630 net for the all-wheel-drive 4Motion variant, with the rear-wheel-drive version arriving at the start of October from €48,490 net. The additional cost for the extended version is around €2,340 (c.£2,000) more than the standard model.
UK buyers can expect order books to open in early 2027, ahead of a spring market introduction.
