Pre-orders are now open for the diesel variant of Nissan’s all-new Interstar large van, which is priced from £33,090 (excl. VAT).
The latest and most advanced iteration of the brand’s largest LCV, the new-generation Interstar delivers a bolder truck-inspired design, more space and versatility as well as its first-ever fully electric variant, which arrives in the summer.
It’s based on the fourth-generation Renault Master E-Tech van under the firms’ alliance and uses the same platform, offering a wide range of body derivatives and sizes. The line-up includes factory-built conversions, such as tipper, drop-side and box van options, as well as multiple panel van variants with L2H2, L3H2 and L3H3 variants.
Diesel versions are powered by a 2.0-litre single variable turbo engine in a range of tunes, offering power outputs from 105hp to 170hp, torque outputs from 330Nm to 380Nm, and a WLTP fuel consumption figure of up to 37.8mpg (and as high as 41.5mpg for N2 versions). It’s driven via a six-speed manual transmission or nine-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Interstar also offers a payload of up to almost two tonnes for the diesel variant, and – as with the upcoming electric version – a maximum towing capacity of 2,500kg. Manoeuvrability is also greatly improved, with a turning circle that is a full 1.5 metres smaller compared to previous versions.
Two trims – Acenta and Tekna – are up for grabs. Acenta is “designed to meet customers’ everyday needs” and comes with manual air-conditioning. Tekna versions have a £1,200 (excl. VAT) uplift and add in equipment such as automatic air conditioning, heated windscreen, rear-view camera, front parking sensors and flank protection, 270-degree opening rear doors, 12V plug-in loading area, additional 10 anchorage fixing rings on the C- and D-pillars, full wheel covers and lumbar adjustment on the driver’s seat.
All versions come with a five-year or 100,000-mile warranty.
The revamped interior is designed to offer car-like comfort and convenience, and includes a sculpted dashboard with a 10.1-inch touchscreen angled towards the driver, two large cupholders, large overhead shelves and 10 open storage areas, plus another three closed areas that together offer nearly 80 litres of stowage space, including a multipurpose central seat-back workspace unit and a large under-seat storage box.
Standard safety features include forward emergency braking, drowsiness warning and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
The one-box braking system ensures that braking power is always optimised, regardless of how heavy the vehicle is. Additionally, Interstar’s reaction time for emergency braking is halved over previous-generation models.
Nissan has also enhanced the Primastar’s advanced driver assistance technologies. Standard features include lane keep assist and lane departure warning, intelligent speed assistance, intelligent emergency braking with cyclist and pedestrian detection and side wind assist.
The new Interstar joins Nissan’s Townstar small van launched in 2023 and the Primastar midsized van, recently updated for 2024.
Pre-orders are open now; sales start on 1 October 2024.
