More than third of people killed or seriously injured on Essex roads were undertaking a work trip, and the Business Driving in Essex scheme works to reduce this via free consultations and on-line or practical help with policies and training.

The programme offers a bespoke theory presentation and driver assessments and provides expert guidance for safer business driving in the future. The course caters to a variety of vehicles, including grey fleet, vans, lorries, minibuses.

The scheme’s experienced fleet trainers work to create a bespoke training package, tailored to each company’s needs, from sales representatives to commercial drivers, and can deliver both practical and theory sessions, at a convenient location.

Businesses will be trained on a range of important topics, including hazard awareness, perception and defensive driving.

Will Cubbin, SERP partnership manager, said: “Driving is a high-risk activity, that many employees will have in their daily remit. With commercial driving currently equating for around 38% of all fatalities, the SERP wants to bring these statistics down to zero. Business Driving in Essex training is essential to protect drivers and other road users from harm, and to fulfil the responsibility businesses must uphold in protecting their employees from future driving related incidents.”

He added: “SERP is committed in offering help and support to any local businesses that wish to work on reducing the number of road casualties, as part of our strive towards Vision Zero.”
