Bowmer & Kirkland to push safety best practice as FORS Champion

Privately owned construction, engineering and development company Bowmer & Kirkland has become a FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) as it looks to promote the scheme and aim to specify it for its UK sites by early 2018.

FORS Champions put FORS as a contractual/procurement requirement in their supply chain or promote FORS without providing a product or service.

Founded in 1923, the group comprises 29 subsidiary companies or divisions offering a diverse range of construction-related specialisms.

Group health and safety director Mark Blundy said: “As a company we have always been very focused on our responsibilities towards other road users. We’ve been involved in cycle safety events previously and were very aware of FORS and CLOCS thanks to our work in London.

“While we don’t operate vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, we were looking for a national scheme that would actively encourage those who come to our sites to meet the highest possible standards. We also wanted uniform procedures that would be relevant for all our sites across the UK, and meet the respective requirements of the different cities and counties in which we operate.”
