Bramble Energy has made a multi-million-pound investment in a new company headquarters featuring a Hydrogen Innovation Hub.
The new facility supports the company’s work in innovating fuel cell technology and aims to level up the UK’s hydrogen and fuel cell testing capability.
Founded in 2016 as a university spin-out, then developed in the garage of co-founder and CEO Dr Tom Mason, Bramble Energy has seen rapid growth and continued momentum with its fuel cell technology based on printed circuit board (PCB) technology. This is said to enable bespoke fuel cell stacks to be created in a matter of days in almost any size and arrangement and at scale and low-cost compared to traditional electrochemical stacks.
It’s joined forces with the University of Bath, engineering specialist Equipmake and Aeristech, which develops high-speed electric motors, inverters and oil-free compressors, to create the Hydrogen Electric Integrated Drivetrain Initiative (HEIDI), which will support fuel cell manufacturing in the UK for buses and commercial vehicles.
The business growth has led to the demand for a larger facility that can accommodate Bramble Energy’s projected expansion and support the scale-up of its technology to transform the hydrogen fuel cell industry. At the heart of the new HQ is the Hydrogen Innovation Hub research, development and testing facility dedicated to hydrogen fuel cells, electrolysers and sensors.
Dr Tom Mason, Bramble Energy co-founder and CEO, commented: “Our world-leading Hydrogen Innovation Hub at Atrium Court will significantly contribute to levelling up the UK’s hydrogen and fuel cell testing capability. It will play a crucial role in our future development as we revolutionise the shift towards cleaner and sustainable energy solutions.”
