The Brecon Beacons National Park Authority has expanded its EV fleet yet further still with the arrival of an electric events van.
The Authority, which maintains and manages 520 square miles of Wales’s second-largest national park, has been an early adopter of EVs; it added its first electric pool vehicles in 2016 and now runs a fleet of electric or plug-in hybrid cars.
The new Peugeot e-Expert van builds on this, providing a events and information resource to share what the Authority does and its aims for the future, supported by distinct graphics from Harris Signs in Swansea.
The national park’s team are currently prioritising their work, in co-operation with other organisations, looking at tackling issues around climate change, biodiversity, river health as well as the impact of visitor numbers in the park.
The new e-van will help spread the word of the Authority’s efforts and where residents and visitors can help effect positive change.
It’s equipped with the larger 75kWh battery available on the e-Expert, which gives a WLTP-certified range of up to 211 miles.
As with other vehicles on the fleet, it’s kitted out with solar panels on the roof to enable it to function off-grid at events without impacting the traction battery – these are used to charge a battery for the internal lights and power. The conversion has been carried out by South Wales Campers, which also fitted a bespoke awning for inclement weather. Visitors are also welcome to sit inside to shelter.
“It is very important at this time that we are more visible out in the National Park,” said Eleanor Greenwood, communications officer for the Brecon Beacons National Park. “We need to get the message out about what we are working towards and how people can help.”
