BT Fleet runs London recruitment drive

The firm is looking to recruit 30 qualified vehicle technicians with NVQ level 3 qualifications in motor engineering and six apprentices and is targeting its recruitment drive in six London Boroughs: Enfield, Merton, Ealing, Hounslow, Kingston-upon-Thames and Bexley.

Mark Wolfe, head of garage network for BT Fleet, said: “We’re speeding up recruitment of new vehicle technicians to meet increasing demand for our garage services. Increasingly, BT Fleet is providing services for a wide range of organisations and companies as well as BT’s own vehicles. We now work with a number of private and public sector organisations and are seeing unprecedented growth opportunities following new product launches, contract extensions, partnerships and high demand for out-of-hours servicing.”

BT Fleet, which has eight garages in the London area, has changed the way it recruits by making better use of advertising channels such as social media, online advertising and targeted emails.

Wolfe continued: “Thanks to the new approach, it’s now taking weeks rather than months to hire new vehicle technicians and get them in place across our UK garage network. At the same time, we’ve significantly lowered our recruitment costs. We’ve already taken on more than 60 new vehicle technicians this year. Forty per cent are as a result of referrals from our BT Fleet workforce and more are in the pipeline.”

BT also pledged to provide up to 1,500 vocational training and work experience placements for out of work youngsters over the next 18-months. As part of Movement to Work, a UK employer-led initiative, backed by the Prince’s Trust and the Government, BT will offer 18-24 year olds four to seven-week-long work placements combining vocational training, employability skills and work experience and, where possible, link this into the company’s future recruitment plans.
