Calor Gas has seen major improvements in safety and efficiency for its delivery fleet after partnering with Trakm8.
The business is a leading UK supplier of both LPG and BioLPG and runs a 550-strong mixed fleet of HGVs and LCVs, plus a specialist team of engineers who provide 24/7 emergency support where there is no mains gas supply available.
Its bid to raise standards and lead an improved safety focus saw the business turn to Trakm8 to find a solution for its highly specialised fleet and unique set of telematics requirements, which had meant that an off-the-shelf solution was not feasible.
The customised solution from Trakm8 incorporates the latest in telematics for tracking, camera solutions, managing driver safety and vehicle efficiency, and has resulted in impressive driver safety improvements.
Since the start of 2021, Calor has seen its driver safety score increase nationally from 68% to 77% in 12 months.
Meanwhile, the vehicle efficiency score has increased from 91% to 94%, while engine idling costs have reduced by 22%.
The results have been generated through Trakm8’s driver safety behaviour scoring system, which allows Calor to identify any weaknesses in driver performance related to safety and provides driver coaches solutions to ensure any problem areas are addressed, ensuring best safety practices and efficiency.
Andrew Stout, continuous improvement and master data manager at Calor, said: “Both our fleet’s and driver safety standards are extremely important to us. We want our fleet to be market leading when it comes to safety, which is why we turned to Trakm8 for its telematics solutions.
“We’ve worked extensively with Trakm8 to create a custom solution that works for our needs and meets the varying requirements of our specialised fleet. With our new driver coach programme, we can already see improvements in safety performance, which will optimise miles per gallon and therefore reduce costs for the business.”
The collaborative work also saw Trakm8’s technical and diagnostics teams work with Calor to understand the needs of every vehicle type and individually calibrate software to provide accurate readings undertaking vigorous and detailed testing.
Sandra Montgomery, Key account and innovation director at Trakm8, commented: “Our relationship with Calor is a true collaboration, with Trakm8 engineers working with their expert fleet team to create a bespoke firmware solution for their needs. Calor now has access to an extensive range of telematics capabilities that will decrease costs and increase safety.
“It’s great to see Trakm8 technology at the heart of the UK energy system and we’re incredibly pleased to be bringing our breakthrough technology to such a key player as Calor.”
