Camden offers free cargo bike hire via new app

Businesses and residents in Camden can now hire cargo bikes by the hour using a new app.

The scheme provides free access to a cargo bike for the first two hours and costs £3 an hour thereafter

Dubbed OurBike, the community scheme is provided by Peddle My Wheels and intended to showcase the eco and cost-saving benefits of using cargo bikes rather than motor vehicles.

The scheme is initially located on Eversholt Street, outside Lost Boys Pizza, with plans to expand.

It provides free access to a cargo bike for the first two hours and costs £3 an hour thereafter.

Organised in partnership with Camden Town Unlimited and Cross River Partnership, the scheme has been funded by the Mayor of London’s Air Quality Fund and DEFRA and is part of the council’s ways to help reduce air pollution.

Councillor Adam Harrison, Cabinet member for a sustainable Camden, said: “By making the cargo bike, cheap and easy to hire we hope that both residents and businesses will see the benefits of this mode of transport over polluting motor vehicles for carrying out deliveries and transporting large or bulky items.”

All users will be required to undergo a free onboarding session so that they are set up to safely use the bike.
