Cappagh takes delivery of new Fuso Canter fleet from Rygor

They are all on utilities duties and used mainly by tarmac gangs.

Commenting on the new fleet, Cappagh plant manager, John Gormley, said: ‘These vehicles are used to carry out utility work throughout the Greater London area. They transport debris away from site, while also bringing in tarmac and tools to complete the job.

‘The Canter is not too big, so relatively easy to manoeuvre in congested areas. And at 3,900 kg it will carry about half a tonne more than we’d get on a conventional 7.5-tonner, which represents a big “win” in terms of productivity.’

‘Rygor have been extremely helpful,’ continued Gormley. ‘We first worked with them when they helped resolve one or two warranty issues we were having with our oldest Canters, which dated back to 2010. Their efficient sales service, coupled with the back-up we’ve received from the after sales team, was key to our decision to order these latest vehicles from Rygor.’

Rygor, Britain’s largest Mercedes-Benz Dealer, is also responsible for sales and support of the popular Fuso light truck range. It took back 15 older Canters in part exchange, but Cappagh is also still running another 10 Canters which it purchased in 2012.

The Cappagh group of companies boasts a combined annual turnover of more than £40 million and, in addition to its utilities operations, has interests in waste management, aggregates recycling, transport and plant, highways services and land remediation.

The company’s new Canters are equipped with twin-plate, dual-clutch DUONIC automated transmissions, which offer smooth shifts and economical performance. Their tipping bodies, meanwhile, are by Abba Commercials, of Dover, which also fitted roof-mounted beacons.

Cappagh will be maintaining its new Canters in-house, but relies on Rygor for regular parts deliveries and warranty support.

Its latest trucks are the subject of a flexible Agility funding package from Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.
