Car Free Day presents ideal opportunity for fleets to reassess logistics strategy

London-based zero-emission delivery firm e-cargobikes.com is urging fleets to use this Sunday’s Car Free Day in London as an opportunity for businesses to reassess their logistics strategy and embrace a more sustainable transport option.

e-cargobikes.com’s bikes have been designed to be faster, more efficient and more flexible than traditional van-based delivery models

Taking place across central London, the event will see some 17 miles of roads closed to traffic around Tower Bridge, London Bridge and the City of London. However, while providing a boost for communities and cyclists, Car Free Day will pose a challenge to businesses, limiting access for deliveries and complicating transport logistics.

However, help could be at hand in the form of e-cargobikes.com’s bikes, which have been designed to be faster, more efficient and more flexible than traditional van-based delivery models. The business has already carried out successful trials with Sainsbury’s and Co-op supermarkets in central London, and has plans for expansion across the country within the next two years.

James FitzGerald – co-founder of e-cargobikes.com – said: “We’re excited and ready to help businesses to realise the benefits of zero-emissions delivery solutions. Our unique e-cargo bikes offer efficient, rapid transport throughout the inner-city, helping businesses to reduce their carbon footprint, free up the streets and adapt to a rapidly changing world. London’s Car Free Day on 22 September marks an exciting step towards a total transformation of London’s transport and delivery strategy, and we’re excited to help businesses to survive and thrive in a net zero carbon world.

FitzGerald added: “E-cargobikes.com provides unparalleled efficiency gains for businesses. For example, we’ve shown that one of our e-cargo bikes can deliver the same amount of groceries as a 3.5 tonne diesel van over a typical shift but requires less than 0.5% of the energy. Our bikes are faster, cheaper and more environmentally sustainable than the conventional diesel van delivery model, able to whizz around central London avoiding charges associated with the ULEZ, congestion zone and parking.”
