Commercial vehicle fleets continue to expand in size and professionalism

That’s the finding of Lex Autolease’s newly released Report on Company Motoring, which adds that 81% of commercial vehicles can be classified as business critical and this leads to demands from suppliers to minimise off-road time.

Lex Autolease fleet data shows that the average off-road time per vehicle, across their whole fleet, has fallen from 8.0 days to 5.2 days in the last three years.

It adds that 51% of fleet managers find the idea of 24/7 commercial fleet support attractive and 55% find the prospect of evening servicing for their commercial vehicles attractive.

In addition, highly customised light commercial vehicles are becoming more essential to many organisations, because those driving them are increasingly home-based, requiring that their vehicle includes specialist storage and work-space, as well as holding stock and parts.

Meanwhile 20% of fleet managers have increased the customisation of commercial vehicles in the last two years and 11% plan to do so in the next two years.

The report also found that commercial vehicle fleets are leading the way with driver training and UK commercial vehicle drivers are some of the most professional in the world. The research highlighted how the same professionalism is going to become increasingly important for company car drivers, many of who admit to poor driving habits.
