The vehicles replace diesel vans and will be used by council offices for frontline operations such as waste services, grounds maintenance and pollution control, as well as security services.

Councillor David Watson, portfolio holder for environment, said: “These new vehicles are much more cost effective than those that we currently operate, and they fit in with the Council’s vision for a low carbon North East Lincolnshire.

“It is great to see the vehicles on the road and ready to go. People will be able to see the new vans operating across the borough over the next few weeks.

“The Council will put these vehicles to the test, ensuring that they can fulfil the requirements of our day-to-day operations, before potentially looking at the eNV200 as a replacement for the aging diesel fleet.”

The council has deployed the vehicles in line with the RenewNEL umbrella brand for all energy related Council projects, which was launched in 2016 to spearhead the council’s target of becoming the UK energy capital by 2032.

North East Lincolnshire Council has also taken delivery of a number of eNV200 Combi vehicles which have been adapted to accommodate wheelchair users and vulnerable children.
