Couriers offered access to pay-as-you-go insurance

Insurance firm Zego has launched a new pay-as-you-go insurance product to target the growing numbers of part-time parcel delivery and courier workers.

The PAYG solution targets the growing numbers of part-time parcel delivery and courier workers

Developed in partnership with RSA Insurance Group in response to rising trends in online retail and eCommerce, the solution sees Zego’s technology integrate directly with the platforms of their partners, which allows flexible couriers to be insured automatically for the time they work. The insurance is then charged by the minute after the first hour, with pricing starting from 80 pence per hour.

The product represents further expansion into the motor space for Zego, which also currently offers scooter, private hire, car and bicycle insurance.

Harry Franks, co-founder of Zego, said: “eCommerce is booming with nearly £10bn spent on parcel delivery alone in the UK. Unsurprisingly, there’s high demand for part-time couriers, but for many it doesn’t make sense to spend thousands of pounds on an annual policy if they only want to do a couple of deliveries over Christmas. This is about personalising insurance to fit how people are working and we are pleased to be working with RSA on this.”
