CV registrations up 20.1% in September

New figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that registrations rose 20.1% last month to 65,453 units.

Growth was seen in both the van and truck segments. Trucks led the way with a gain of 24.8% to 6,709 units while vans posted a 19.6% rise to a total of 58,744.

Helped by the September figures, year-to-date totals saw strong rises. For the first nine months of the year, 321,302 commercial vehicles were registered, an increase of 19.2%. Van demand was up 17.4% to 284,161 units whilst trucks were up 35.6% to 37,141.

Mike Hawes, chief executive, SMMT, said: “The continued recovery of the commercial vehicle market is good to see. Particularly encouraging is the consistent growth seen this year in the traditionally more volatile truck sector, while the van market – buoyed by robust business confidence and the ongoing trend towards online deliveries – shows no sign of slowing.”
