Daimler AG has officially rebranded as Mercedes-Benz Group AG, underscoring its new focus on cars and vans following the spin-off of the trucks business.
The plans, revealed a year ago, have now been completed with the successful stock market debut of Daimler Truck.
In a statement published today (1 February 2022), the brand said the renaming marked the completion of its realignment and showed its full focus on passenger cars and vans in the luxury and premium segment, covering the Mercedes-Benz, AMG, Maybach and EQ brands, as well as vans.
The business will also have a leading role in electric mobility and vehicle software as a goal, including furthering the work through the EQ range of electric vehicles.
Ola Källenius, chairman of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, said: “The renaming to Mercedes-Benz Group AG underlines our renewed strategic focus. In doing so, we want to make clear where we see the core of our company – building the most desirable cars in the world. The Mercedes star has always been a promise for the future: Changing the present in order to improve it. We want to continue this legacy of our founders by taking the lead in electric mobility and vehicle software.”
The move will also see the Daimler Mobility AG finance and mobility division adapt its branding to Mercedes-Benz Mobility AG, highlighting its mobility services for passenger cars and vans in the areas of financing, leasing and insurance. These include flexible solutions via rental and subscription models, fleet management and digital services for charging and payment.
Following the realignment of the original Daimler Group, Mercedes-Benz Group still holds a minority stake of 35% in Daimler Truck Holding AG, of which around 5% are held in its pension assets.
