Deadline extended to enter Van Driver of the Year 2022

Logistics UK has extended the deadline for submissions to its Van Driver of the Year contest to Friday 29 April 2022 on the back of a surge in late enquiries.

The competition will celebrate the nation’s leading professional drivers

The extension will give more companies the chance to enter their leading professional drivers into the competition, which will celebrate the nation’s leading professional drivers.

Taking place on Wednesday 11 May 2022 alongside the free-to-attend ITT Hub at the Farnborough International Exhibition and Conference Centre, the contest will find the overall Van Driver of the Year, along with the second and third place contestants, plus the Van Excellence Driver of the Year and individual category winners.

Sam Burton, winner of Van Driver of the Year 2021, said the competition was a worthwhile experience that gave the chance to learn from other talented and dedicated drivers that taking part.

He added: “Winning was the most incredible feeling and having won the top prize of a holiday voucher, I used it to book myself a week away in Wales as I’m a huge mountain biker. I had a fantastic time and it was amazing to go away again after not being able to do so due to the pandemic.

“Winning Van Driver of the Year really is a career highlight, and I would like to thank Logistics UK for the opportunity, as well as my manager and Wayfair for their continued support. In the year since, I have attended multiple speeches and have also been promoted at work. I really would encourage anyone thinking about entering, to do so!”

Contestants will take part in a series of practical and theoretical challenges, with entrants being assessed on safe driving style, legislative knowledge, economical driving, manoeuvring, risk perception and pre-use vehicle defect checking.

Kevin Green, marketing and communications director at Logistics UK, said: “The sector does a fantastic job of meeting the delivery, service and utility needs of the nation. And during such a busy period, we understand that not everyone who wants to enter has had the chance to do so yet. We are delighted to be extending the deadline for entries and supporting this vital sector by allowing more time to complete their entries. We have had a large number of excellent submissions so far and look forward to celebrating the nation’s very best drivers at the event in May.”
