DPD UK acquires final-mile courier company Absolutely

DPD UK has completed the acquisition of final-mile courier company Absolutely, further expanding its same-day delivery capabilities across the UK.

The Absolutely fleet includes an expanding number of zero-emission vehicles, such as cargo bikes and pushbikes, alongside vans and motorbikes

Absolutely operates around 200 couriers, servicing more than 2,500 clients across the South East. Its fleet includes an expanding number of zero-emission vehicles, such as cargo bikes and pushbikes, alongside vans and motorbikes, while the service offering also features temperature-controlled courier services.

The deal means Absolutely customers will be able to access CitySprint’s UK-wide same-day network as well as DPD UK’s domestic next-day and international expertise.

Stuart Godman, CEO of Absolutely, commented: “We are very excited to become part of the DPD UK family. With a long history in the industry, we know that same-day delivery is essential for keeping businesses of all sizes moving. This move is great news for our existing customers, and we look forward to offering them access to DPD’s broader range of services in due course. But for now, it’s very much business as usual.”

Absolutely joins the group following DPD UK’s acquisition of same-day delivery specialist CitySprint in 2022 and further enables the company to capitalise on this rapidly growing segment of the delivery market.

Elaine Kerr, CEO of DPD UK, added: “Same-day delivery is one of the fastest-growing segments of the logistics market and this move allows us to further strengthen and expand our offer in this area, following the acquisition of CitySprint last year.

“Looking ahead, DPD UK is strongly positioned to meet this rising demand and consolidate our place as a market leader in same-day delivery.”

The acquisition also advances DPD’s work on sustainable delivery. In 2018, the company opened the UK’s first all-electric parcel delivery depot in Westminster while in July 2021, Oxford became DPD’s first all-electric city in the UK.

DPD UK currently has 3,000 EVs on the road and plans to deliver to 30 of the largest towns and cities in the UK with zero- and low-emission delivery means by the end of 2023.
