Drivers reminded of M25 full weekend closure

Drivers have been warned of disruption and delays on the M25 this weekend as the Surrey stretch closes for roadworks.

The closure is required for bridge demolition as part of the ongoing junction 10 improvement project

The UK’s busiest motorway will close from junction 10 (Wisley) to 11 (A320 Chertsey) from 9pm Friday 7 March and will re-open by 6am Monday 10 March.

The closure is required for bridge demolition as part of the ongoing junction 10 improvement project. A further weekend closure is planned for Friday 21 March to Monday 24 March.

As with last year’s closures for the same project, drivers have been advised to only travel if necessary and to complete their journeys in other ways if possible.

Drivers heading to London and the surrounding areas this weekend are being warned to expect delays and disruption.

Those travelling to Gatwick and Heathrow airports and the Channel ports may also be affected.

National Highways has also urged drivers to follow its travel advice instead of sat-nav diversions, which it says will be key to reducing congestion.

The official diversion route is the same for both directions. Those travelling clockwise will be diverted onto the A3 northbound at junction 10 and then the A245 and A320 before rejoining the M25 at junction 11.

Those going in the opposite direction will take the A320 southbound at junction 11, before heading onto the A245 and the A3, rejoining the motorway at junction 10.

Avoiding the closure by taking the M25 via the Dartford Crossing may also be quicker.

Jonathan Wade, National Highways senior project manager, said: “We were grateful to drivers who listened to our advice during the three weekend closures last year and I’d again urge them to only use the motorway if their journey is absolutely necessary.

“Unfortunately, it’s simply not possible to carry out this scale of infrastructure improvement, which will benefit millions of people in the long term, without there being some degree of short-term disruption.

“We have spent months planning these closures, but they will still cause significant congestion and delays, so we are asking road users to allow extra time and use alternative routes where possible. Please follow our official diversion routes and not information from sat-navs.”

The junction 10 improvement scheme, now due to open spring 2026, will increase the number of lanes to make journeys safer and improve traffic flow.

It will also make it easier and safer to enter and exit the M25, provide safer entry roads for Wisley, Pyrford, Old Byfleet and the RHS Garden Wisley, and will reduce the pollution caused by traffic jams.

Latest M25 closure updates and diversion details are available on the National Highways website.
