Leading food distribution charity Fareshare is adopting route optimisation technology from The Algorithm People to enhance its distribution network, driving sustainability goals.
The implementation of the My Transport Planner platform, which uses sophisticated computer algorithms to automatically plan vehicle journeys, is expected to bring up to 20% gains in productivity and lower emissions.
“The introduction of this new technology is a positive step towards our sustainability goals,” explained Rachel McLean, senior operational improvement manager at Fareshare. “Our network of 30 distribution centres is processing thousands of deliveries and collections every day and we are keen to ensure we are operating our vehicles at maximum efficiency, whilst lowering our carbon footprint and minimising our costs.”
Aimed at r ICE, EV or mixed fleets, the My Transport Planner cloud-based, pay-as-you-go optimisation service combines algorithms and machine learning to continuously improve journey efficiency and load allocation.
It will be rolled out across three Fareshare distribution sites initially, including a driver’s app, with vehicle checks, barcode scanning capabilities and EPOD functionality to bring further business benefits.
“In addition to the optimisation platform, the mobile technology is expected to reduce our administration, remove paper run sheets and automate the job allocation and delivery process,” added McLean.
“We are delighted to be supporting Fareshare with their sustainability objectives and continuous improvement of their distribution network,” said The Algorithm People CEO, Colin Ferguson. “Our platform ensures Fareshare and its distributors can have confidence that its deliveries are being made on time and with maximum efficiency.
“Typically, our clients report improved productivity and lower emissions of 20% through using My Transport Planner, and with the cost of fuel rising sharply, reducing fuel costs by the same margin is an imperative for all organisations,” he added.
