According to David Gladding, sales director, the trend is developing partially in response to the sheer size and scope of some systems currently available.
He said: ‘Something like our FleetWave system is a massively capable fleet management tool that is suitable for a huge number of fleet applications but some customers are looking for something more specific to their needs.
‘What they are seeking is a fleet management software package that is essentially preconfigured to meet their requirements, based on our deep knowledge of fleet operations in their sector gathered over more than two decades.
‘A system of this type could be bought off the shelf, in effect, and put into operation very quickly. The underlying technology would, of course, be very similar to that found in our “universal” systems but elements like the kind of data recorded, reporting, KPIs and more would be tailored.’
Gladding said that there were several sectors that Chevin was currently investigating to look at the viability of this kind of software.
He added: ‘This approach is only really suitable for a few types of fleet, we expect, but within those sectors these products could have considerable appeal.’
