Fleets increasingly focusing on downtime, reports epyx

Fleets are putting increased focus on minimising downtime, according to epyx, which says it’s seeing increased usage of its Downtime Management tool.

Tim Meadows, VP and commercial director at epyx

Part of the company’s 1link Service Network platform, Downtime Management works by allowing fleet managers to set up automatic requests to SMR suppliers carrying out work on their cars, vans and truck to regularly update them on when the vehicles will be ready for collection, along with the reason for any delays – enabling proactive management of downtime cover.

Tim Meadows, VP and commercial director, said that increased use of Downtime Management was especially noticeable among light commercial vehicle fleets.

“The change has been substantial enough that we are confident in saying that the fleets with which we work are spending more time proactively managing downtime. It’s a definite trend,” he continued.

“This is part of a general development that we have noticed over the last couple of years and which we have been highlighting, that fleet SMR at the moment is very much about cost control basics. Businesses are deeply aware of the possibility of there being a downturn and are minimising unnecessary expenditure.

“Managing downtime effectively is part of this approach. It means reducing expenditure on costs such as daily rental for cover vehicles and maximising overall utilisation. These are objectives that are very much in tune with the times, we are finding.”
