The association adds that Ford, Kia and Volvo have already decided to submit vehicle recall information to ReCare and other manufacturers are set to follow.
‘Our members recognise the potential that ReCare offers for delivering road safety benefits while cutting administration,’ said Gerry Keaney (pictured), chief executive of the BVRLA. ‘We have growing support within the fleet industry and we are confident that this will lead to wider adoption among manufacturers.’
More than one million vehicles were subject to a vehicle safety recall notification in the UK in 2012 and the ReCare system has been developed by the BVRLA in conjunction with its technology partner Ebbon-Dacs to help firms deal with the burden of managing such recalls.
The system identifies subscribers’ individual vehicles that are subject to safety recall notices and delivers regular reports to manufacturers on which registered keepers have been notified. The information is madea available from a single online source, cutting the time and cost involved in processing recalls.
ReCare is also being used by vehicle provenance check providers CDL Vehicle Information Services, Experian and HPI to ensure that VIN-based recall data from manufacturers matches registration numbers provided by fleet operators.
ReCare also has the potential to cover non-safety recalls.
