Ford confirms hybrid Transit Custom

The Transit Custom will be the brand’s first electrified commercial vehicle, and tests of the plug-in hybrid will begin in Europe this year, the company said, ahead of a 2019 launch date.

Ford added that the Custom plug-in hybrid will help reduce operating costs, particularly in urban environments.

The range of new electric vehicles – which includes a hybrid version of the F-150 pickup in North America and the Middle East – will be backed up by services and solutions, including EV fleet management, route planning and telematics solutions.

Mark Fields, Ford president and CEO, said: “Our investments and expanding line-up reflect our view that global offerings of electrified vehicles will exceed gasoline-powered vehicles within the next 15 years.”
