Operated and powered by Telogis, Ford Telematics will be available to fleet customers in May as a dealer-installed option, offered through Ford's network of specialist Transit Centres.
The system uses real-time information streamed from each vehicle to enable fleet managers to track vehicle location, fuel consumption, driver behaviour, and provide safety and maintenance alerts.
Ford Telematics offers businesses direct access to vehicle diagnostic information, providing increased opportunities to control costs and improve driver safety. Vehicle operators can now plan maintenance schedules that correspond to real-time vehicle health status, and receive notice for unplanned servicing to minimise downtime, lower potential repair costs and increase overall productivity.
The company added that real-world usage has seen fleet operators report fuel savings of up to 20% resulting from optimised vehicle usage and driving routes, and improved driving behaviour, as well as benefits to driver safety and vehicle durability.
"Ford Telematics is an innovative way to deliver reductions in cost of ownership for businesses that operate Ford's Transit commercial vehicles," said Paul McDermott, manager, CV aftersales, Ford of Britain. "Real-time vehicle location and diagnostic data provides fleet customers with a powerful tool to manage their vehicles more effectively and also encourage safer driving."
