FORS upgrades van training to help embed driver best practice

FORS has updated its Van Smart eLearning module, helping to further upskill the nation’s light commercial vehicle drivers.

The eLearning course covers all aspects of the daily van driving journey, using a mobile-friendly online format

Changes include new learning scenarios and a revised format, making the information easier for van drivers to digest, and to thoroughly embed best practice into everyday driving.

The eLearning course covers all aspects of the daily van driving journey, using a mobile-friendly online format. It forms part of the FORS Professional Van Smart training package, designed to equip van drivers with the tools to help reduce the impact on the environment, maximise fuel use, correctly load vehicles – and to know how to avoid incidents with vulnerable road users. The package includes a manager toolkit and detailed driver handbook, as well as a classroom-based course.

The revisions to the online module include improved user functionality, with learning points presented to enhance learning take-aways, with a comprehensive list of Dos and Don’ts for drivers.

Livia Gergely, FORS membership manager, said: “The light commercial vehicle sector continues to grow, buoyed by an increase in online retail. It is therefore imperative that, as with HGV drivers, van drivers are given the training they need to do their job safely, for the benefit of themselves and other road users.

“The FORS Professional Van Smart eLearning module goes a go a long way to improve such safety and efficiency for this expanding national workforce.”
