The free-to-attend event will focus on the government’s strategy to create a 'Northern Powerhouse' of connected cities. It will also examine how local government and city region authorities can benefit from including freight strategies in their growth plans.
The major cities incorporated in the 'Northern Powerhouse' vision are Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Newcastle and Liverpool.
Topics scheduled to be covered at the Expo include:
• Improving connectivity and congestion between northern cities through building a better flowing strategic road network;
• Ensuring freight can be effectively and efficiently transported from the Northern ports to the rest of the country;
• Urban delivery lessons learnt by London and how the North can avoid similar pitfalls;
• The importance of collaboration between the freight sector, private businesses and local authorities;
• The need for a multimodal freight strategy for the North to support trade and freight movement.
Confirmed speakers include Helen Smith, head of logistics and environment at Transport for Greater Manchester; Kevin Rooney, traffic commissioner for the North East of England; Stuart Pickering, head of strategy at Martin Brown UK and Chris Rowland, managing director of MDS Transmodal.
