FTA’s Vehicle Inspection Service marks golden anniversary

Launched in 1966, the service initially only inspected lorries, but over time has expanded to include trailers, buses, fork lift trucks, lorry mounted cranes and company cars. In addition, it’s grown from five engineers to a national team of 90 who carry out over 11 services – including 66,000 vehicle inspections, training courses, IRTEC registrations, PSV, van and DEFRA inspections – to ensure vehicles, related equipment and maintenance arrangements are safe, efficient and legally compliant.

June Powell, FTA head of operations, said: “I am delighted to be celebrating this fantastic achievement and to have the opportunity to recognise the contribution our multi skilled, and highly professional team provide to industry.”
