Gap Vehicle Hire to triple fleet

Gap Vehicle Hire has announced plans to more than triple the size of its fleet as it opens a series of new ‘supersite’ depots across the UK.

Part of independent equipment hire company, the GAP Group, the firm currently runs 3,000 vehicles on long-term hire contracts with plans to increase this to 10,000 over the next three years. Vehicles are run on fully inclusive packages with customisation options including liveries, roof racks, internal racking and tow bars, and a 24/7 breakdown service also available.

Commenting on the company’s long-term strategy, operations director Jim Forrester said: “The expansion plan to grow the fleet to 10,000 is just the start. I believe the market requires and needs an alternative to contract hire and there is a serious requirement and opportunity in today’s market conditions to grow to over 30,000. Time will tell.”

Exact make-up of the future fleet is still to be announced but Mercedes-Benz Vans – the commercial vehicle hire firm’s preferred supplier for vehicles up to and including 3.5 tonnes GVW – said it’s in line to pick up the lion’s share of these orders. The manufacturer also recently provided support for Gap’s expansion plans by providing detailed product training to senior members of the GAP sales force, which saw trainers provide a thorough overview of the Sprinter, Vito and Citan models and the support services available.

Forrester commented: “By gaining a deeper understanding of the key benefits of these vehicles, and the back-up network behind them, we’ll be able to enhance the service we offer even further.”
