Gnewt marks 10 millionth ‘zero-carbon’ parcel delivery

London-based electric delivery fleet Gnewt has delivered its 10 millionth parcel emission-free as it also celebrates 10 years in business.

Gnewt currently has more than 120 EVs in operation

Acquired by Menzies Distribution two years ago, the business has run an all-electric fleet since it was founded; it currently has more than 120 EVs in operation.

Latest figures published by the firm quantify the positive effects of its electric fleet, which has been found to cut CO2 emissions by an average of 67% per parcel. Over the years, it’s saved an estimated total of 2.3 million kg of CO2 compared to standard diesel delivery vehicles.

The firm, which has won multiple awards – nationally and internationally – in sustainable and logistics sectors has recently grown its postcode delivery capability by 50%.

Going forward, it will now start rolling out EV technology and deliveries across the Menzies Distribution fleet of more than 2,000 trucks and vans in 2020, backed by the introduction of what’s said to be the UK’s largest EV rapid charging infrastructure across Menzies’ UK network of 65 depots.

Sam Clarke of Gnewt said: “Delivering 10 million parcels over 3.5 million emission-free miles is a significant milestone for Gnewt and for the environment. When we started the business 10 years ago, EVs were regarded as a novelty and many people didn’t see them as a viable part of a mass logistics delivery network.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved, and we look forward to the next 10 years when we intend to continue to disrupt the industry, demonstrate measurable change and expand our London and national operations to bring this pioneering, best-in-class sustainable solution to more and more offices and homes around the UK.”
