Heltor takes crown at 2023 Iveco Daily Mission Awards with tanker conversion

Iveco has revealed the winners of its third annual Daily Mission Awards, which celebrate impressive vehicle conversions and their operators.

The overall winner was Heltor with a tanker conversion that takes full advantage of the 7.2-tonne Daily’s strength and manoeuvrability

Hosted by broadcaster and journalist Laura Winter, and with Britain’s Strongest Man Adam Bishop as special guest, following his help with the record-breaking eDaily event earlier this year, the 2023 event was the biggest Iveco Daily Mission Awards ever.

This year’s accolades saw the previous categories of Construction & Utilities, Grounds Maintenance and Forestry, Specialist Vehicles, and Delivery joined by three brand-new awards – Livery of the Year, Bodybuilder of the Year, and eDaily Innovation.

The victor in the Delivery category and the overall winner was Heltor with a tanker conversion that takes full advantage of the 7.2-tonne Daily’s strength and manoeuvrability. Founded in the 1960, the company is a specialist in transporting fuel and heater oils, although the narrow roads of Devon presented a particularly challenging mission. It found a solution in the strong truck-based chassis of the Iveco Daily, which provided the perfect platform for a manoeuvrable tanker that’s still capable of transporting considerable payloads.

The winning design incorporates a lightweight aluminium tank featuring dual compartments capable of carrying two different fuel oil products simultaneously. Judges were impressed with how this vehicle has been engineered to overcome the demands of its mission.

The Construction and Utilities award was won by Coppard Plant Hire Ltd with its Daily 3.5t van (35S14 Hi-Matic). Supplied by Northern Commercials, this vehicle joins a Daily dropside and tipper already on Coppard’s fleet and was specified in response to the company’s need for a highly durable van capable of towing heavy equipment.

The winner of the Grounds Maintenance and Forestry category was Heritage Trees with its new Iveco Daily (35C21HA8). It equipped the 3.5-tonne Daily with the Construction Pack that features tyre pressure monitoring, a cross-axle differential lock and a protective crank case sump guard, to enable it to cope with venturing off the paved highways.

Judges particularly praised the 7.2-tonne Daily belonging to Q Catering Supplies, which won the Specialist Vehicle category. The conversion takes full advantage of the Daily’s load capacity while the Paneltex-supplied fridge/freezer box body features a moveable interior bulkhead. Offering the ability to vary the mix of ambient, chilled and frozen foods carried at any one time, it reduces energy costs and enables sustainable deliveries.

The first of three new awards for 2023, the Livery of the Year trophy went to Electricity North West’s strikingly liveried Daily van that looks the part, but also regularly takes advantage of its up to 3.5 tonne towing capacity.

The new Bodybuilder of the Year award was presented to Paneltex for its work with refrigerated bodies. Its abilities with efficiently cooling and freezing goods simultaneously while maximising payload capacity really impressed judges. This intelligent modular construction aids its customers in their mission for better sustainability.

Finally, the eDaily Innovation category saw Bodywork Solutions score highly for its Omnia lightweight bodywork made from recycled thermoplastic that is beneficial to the environment, whilst offering class-leading payload of 3.2 tonnes. Trailar’s roof-mounted solar panels are capable of powering a tail-lift, which on a multidrop mission, can boost range by between 25 and 30 miles.

Iveco UK light business-line director Mike Cutts said: “The 2023 Iveco Daily Mission Awards was the most competitive yet, with some truly impressive vehicles submitted. A big thank you to all who were involved in this event, we can’t wait to see what 2024 has in store.”
