Highways England to work closer with fleets on van safety

Highways England is running a free event for van operators in September as part of wider plans to work more closely with the van community to highlight the importance of fleet compliance.

Highways England is to host The Van Summit at Silverstone Circuit on 11 September 2019 from 10:30 to 15:30.

Recognising the important role that van operators play in improving the safety of the UK’s roads, The Van Summit at Silverstone Circuit on 11 September 2019 will enable operators to hear first-hand from public sector bodies on the benefits of operating a compliant fleet, and the consequences of being non-compliant.

The organisation adds that incidents that cause disruption on the road network also cause disruption to fleet operations, and are often the result of poor driving decisions or poorly maintained vehicles and frequently happen during work journeys.

Highways England added: “We are working with our stakeholders to understand the causes of incidents involving vans on our roads. Our aim is to reduce the number and impact of these incidents by sharing information and good practice. Through better understanding of legislation, we encourage drivers and fleet operators to improve the safety of their vehicles and drivers.”
