Joined-up fleet management solution to help eliminate dangers of phone checking

CameraMatics has integrated Ping’s voice-tech into its fleet and vehicle safety technology to help businesses eliminate driver distraction.

The new tie-up will help stop the dangers of ‘phone checking’

The CameraMatics platform already enables complete control of the fleet through live vehicle telematics, real-time camera footage and instant alerts, and the new tie-up will help stop the dangers of ‘phone checking’.

The partnership with Ping means emails, texts, dispatch notifications and any other time-sensitive messages can be read out loud automatically to the driver, removing the need to interact with their phone and enabling them to stay focused on the road.

It launches just months after the Government further tightened regulations on the use of hand-held mobile phones at the wheel.

Effective from 25 March 2022, the new legislation (full details here) means drivers are now breaking the law if they use a handheld mobile phone behind the wheel for any reason, including scrolling through playlists, playing games, or taking photos. Anyone caught using a hand-held device while driving could face a fine of up to £1,000 as well as six points on their licence or a full driving ban.

CameraMatics CEO Mervyn O’Callaghan said the integration of the Ping technology into its platform would enable its customers to further protect their drivers.

“When you combine this with our existing safety features it makes our platform the most comprehensive safety solution on the market,” he continued.

Garin Toren, Ping CEO, added: “Our mission is to save time, money and lives. The technology removes the ‘urge’ to check notifications and eliminates unnecessary distractions; thus, reducing the risk of costly collisions. No segment benefits more from the combination of the CameraMatics and ping platforms than commercial and fleet drivers.”
