Driveway sharing platform JustPark has launched a new FleetCharge programme to support fleets switching to EVs by unlocking charge point deployment on private driveways.
Some 75% of fleet drivers don’t have access to home charging according to the firm, hampering fleet plans to go electric.
The new scheme solves this issue by finding a local homeowner with a driveway within a five-minute walk of the designated EV driver, installing a home charger and giving that fleet driver exclusive access to that charging point.
It’s a win-win solution; the homeowner could earn an income of £1,000 per year and gets the cost of the electricity covered – a particular incentive as both UK living costs and energy prices soar.
Meanwhile, the fleet driver benefits from reliable and convenient access to charging overnight, avoiding the time and anxiety of relying solely on the public charging network.
Take-up is expected to grow fast too – FleetCharge aims to enrol thousands of homeowners in the next three years, all within a five-minute walk of EV fleet drivers needing a charger.
Commenting on the new scheme, JustPark said the transition to electric vehicles wouldn’t be possible without unlocking the power of the community.
A spokesperson outlined: “Businesses across the UK are responding to increasingly aggressive government legislation to accelerate the transition to EVs. This includes outright bans on the sale of new internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles in 2030. In many cities, congestion charging has become increasingly punitive for diesel-powered vehicles.
“The challenge remains a significant imbalance between the growth of public charging infrastructure – more than 60% of councils have no set EV infrastructure strategy – and rapidly increasing demand for EVs for both personal and business use.
“By unlocking the thousands of unused parking spaces across multiple settings including businesses, driveways and even church car parks – we enable businesses and fleet managers to execute their desire to exploit the full benefits of transitioning fleets to EV.”
The scheme also complements JustPark’s existing driveway sharing service, which connects more than eight million drivers with parking spaces every year via an app-based platform. It’s used by over 50,000 parking space owners, as well as some of the UK’s biggest councils and car parking companies who gain revenues from unused driveway and car parking capacity.
- Homeowners can register interest to become a FleetCharge host here. It takes less than a minute to apply and JustPark will get in touch when there is a local EV driver nearby who needs your space.
