The latest model is an Isuzu N65.150 manual 4×2 rigid truck, which is being used for the distribution of the company’s beer products to the Cornish coastal towns of Looe and Polperro.
To cope with the narrow road access in places, Skinner’s Brewery has opted for a narrow dray body to be fitted the Isuzu so that the width of the body is no wider than the width of the truck cab. Yet the vehicle has the capacity to carry a payload of just over 3 tonnes.
Both of the Skinner’s Isuzus have been supplied by local Isuzu dealer T Harvey, which also arranged for the specialist narrow dray body to be built by Redruth manufacturer South West Commercials.
Skinner’s Brewery transport manager Andrew Prynn said: “The compact footprint of the Isuzu 6.5tonne Forward is ideal for this particular distribution route and the final chassis/body specification enables us to maximise on the payload carried, so we can optimise our journey routes in this part of coastal Cornwall, whilst also reducing potential body damage.”
The latest Isuzu will have a working life of approximately five year as a company undertakes a rolling programme of fleet replacement.
“We now have two Isuzus in our fleet and both are giving us excellent service, whilst the relationship we have with our local Isuzu dealer is absolutely first-class. T Harvey is a joy to deal with and they make our life so much easier,” added Prynn.
