Brandon Hire Station, one of the UK’s biggest tool and plant hire companies, has recorded significant improvements in driver safety after installing video telematics and analytics solutions from Lytx.
The business, runs a commercial vehicle fleet mainly made up of vans, along with some trucks and pick-ups, and is using Lytx video technology to record collisions and risky driving incidents, providing a basis for driver behaviour improvements.
As a result, over a 12-month period, Brandon Hire Station has seen a 56% reduction in overall risk frequency and severity along with a 46% reduction in collisions. It’s also reported a 31% reduction in late responses and a 25% reduction in other distracted driving incidents. Tailgating has also been cut, with a 77% reduction in instances where the following distance was under one second and a 74% reduction where the following distance was 1-2 seconds.
“Our drivers have responded brilliantly to the introduction of Lytx,” said Stuart Conway, fleet manager at Brandon Hire Station. “Overwhelmingly, they saw it as investment in their safety and their future and in the safety of other road users too. I’d like to think the very strong results we’ve already achieved are only the beginning.
“One major factor in our decision was that Lytx reviews the 12-second clips captured and uploaded by the cameras, and only sends us what we need to see,” he added. “Some of the other systems send you 15 hours of footage a day and we simply don’t have the capacity to go through all of that.”
As well as implementing its video and analytic capabilities, Brandon Hire Station’s fleet managers have made use of the prescriptive and customised coaching insights from the Lytx technology. This provides video, motion and engine control module (ECM) sensors to present a comprehensive view of risk, said to bring with greater than 95% accuracy across more than 60 risky driving behaviours.
Brandon Hire Station is als looking to develop its driver training further in the future through widespread implementation of Lytx’s Driver Safety Programme, which offers prescriptive, video-based coaching workflows.
