LEVC celebrates 10,000-vehicle milestone

LEVC (London Electric Vehicle Company) has reached the major milestone of building 10,000 vehicles at its Ansty facility in Coventry, UK.

The Ansty plant has been used to build 10,000 vehicles, sold throughout multiple global markets, from Paris to Madrid, Cairo to Tokyo

The site has been used to manufacture the TX plug-in hybrid range-extender taxi since 2018, joined at the end of 2020 by the VN5 hybrid van.

2022 was a record-breaking year for LEVC with 2,508 TX vehicles sold, making it the best annual sales performance to date. The PHEV taxi has also now overtaken diesel-powered TX4 taxis in London for the first time, representing over 40% of black cabs in the city.

Alex Nan, CEO of LEVC, commented: “Since the first TX rolled off the production line at Antsy in 2018, we have seen demand continue to grow for our purpose-built, advanced, zero-emission capable vehicles. We are proud to have reached the incredible milestone of 10,000 units and we would like to thank all our stakeholders – from our loyal customers, to valued employees for their support in helping us to achieve this impressive milestone.”

The production milestone also coincides with a number of anniversaries for LEVC including 10 years of Geely ownership, 200 years since the first Hackney carriage was licensed in London, and 75 years since the original ‘black cab’ began operating in the city.

LEVC, which is owned by China’s Geely Group, recently announced a new strategy that will see it grow beyond TX manufacturing to become a leading zero-carbon mobility technology company.

Alex Nan continued: “We will build on LEVC’s unrivalled heritage and grow beyond high-end taxi manufacturing, delivering on our mission to offer smart, green, safe and accessible mobility to more customers than ever before.”
