London-based van fleet halves insurance premiums

Best Catering has cut its insurance premiums by up to 55% after deploying 3G vehicle cameras from Intelligent Telematics.

The catering firm received more than 40 claims in a three-year period prior to investing in the technology.

The catering supplier operates a fleet of 30 vehicles, mainly comprising vans and other commercial vehicles, from its base in North London, and was experiencing a high frequency of claims, with more than 40 claims paid in a three-year period. This in turn had a significant detrimental impact on the company’s insurance premium.

Since installing the IT1000 3G vehicle cameras in January 2016 through specialist commercial insurance broker First Insurance Solutions, the company has experienced just six claims, three of which are being challenged using video evidence and supporting data.

Sam Footer, head of international business & strategic development at Intelligent Telematics, said: “These latest results demonstrate the potential savings of 3G vehicle cameras regardless of fleet type or size. Whether you are an SME operation or global blue-chip fleet, the devices are increasingly helping to reduce costs, minimise risk and support duty of care. This is why we are seeing growing interest from the insurance marketplace as the potential benefits of the technology are recognised.”
