Low-cost electric vans to help meet urban mobility challenges

New fully electric vans supplied through Saturn EV could help businesses ensure continued cost-effective operations in urban areas while meeting air quality concerns.

The Saturn City van and flatbed truck have been launched in the UK to provide reasonably priced fully electric transport; they’re priced from £16,975 (+VAT)

Priced from £16,975 (+VAT) – and offering running costs of less than 2.5p a mile – the Saturn City vans and trucks have been introduced by Saturn EV managing director Tony Hayes in response to a lack of reasonably priced EVs in the market.

The vehicles, which are imported by the independent East Sussex-based firm and assembled in the UK, are available in two-seater box and flat-bed versions and provide a top speed of 50mph and a range of up to 125 miles.

This enables their use for operators ranging from city couriers and local delivery services, to tradespeople and commercial environments such as airports and local authorities.

Both vehicles have a payload of 500kg. Despite its compact size, the box style ‘city’ van offers a load space measuring 2,270mm long x 1,400mm wide x 1,520mm high while the flatbed truck is a similar 2,260mm long x 1,400mm wide with a side surround of 400mm high and a drop-down tailgate at the rear; the sides can also be dropped.

The lithium battery can be charged in 6-10 hours from a standard electric vehicle charging point or mains supply.

Specification includes central locking, LCD display screen, Bluetooth connectivity and a USB / SD interface. Optional extras include air conditioning and GPS vehicle tracking devices.
