Major firms commit to action on EVs

Well-known business names including Tesco, Siemens and Sky have signed up to Sadiq Khan’s London Business Climate Leaders, including taking action on deploying electric vehicles by 2025.

Member commitments include Switch switching to zero-emission capable vehicles for company-owned vehicles in London

A total of 11 leading firms have signed up to the London Business Climate Leaders scheme, which covers a number of ambitious projects to cut levels of pollution and emissions far in excess of Government targets.

Participating business have committed to taking actions on clean transport by taking delivery of zero-emission capable vehicles for company owned -vehicles in London, and/or supporting the development of electric vehicle charging required in London by installing infrastructure on London-based properties by 2025 (or the nearest procurement date).

The firms have also made commitments on purchasing renewable energy, reducing waste and setting energy efficiency targets.

The partnership has been developed with sustainability organisations CDP, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40), The B Team and We Mean Business, with funding provided by the Ikea Foundation.

Frances Way Chief Operating Officer at CDP said: “This initiative has the potential to accelerate action on climate change and create a greener, thriving and more resilient city. It is our hope that cities worldwide will adopt this collaborative, insight-driven approach which has the potential to lead to meaningful action on climate change.”
