The van auction, held at Manheim's 10-acre CV centre in Gloucestershire on Thursday 2nd October, saw more than eight out of ten vans sell to a total of 417 buyers (62% of whom were online bidders).
The performance underpins the strong state of the wholesale van market, with users of Simulcast – Manheim's online bidding tool – accounting for nearly 35% of total sales on the day. This translated to close to 100 vans, breaking yet another record for the highest number of vans sold via Simulcast at a single auction.
James Davis, director of commercial vehicles at Manheim, said: ‘Our Gloucester sale last week represents yet another watershed moment for our industry. Against a backdrop of the current supply shortage, the online performances we are seeing go to show how accepted online bidding has become with today's van dealers. Gloucester received over 1,200 bids via Simulcast during the day across 64% of all vans entered.
‘These industry-leading online performances, combined with the recent successful launch of our online-only van auctions, all go to prove that buyers in the wholesale van market have truly embraced online bidding as part and parcel of their stock sourcing strategies. We are currently experiencing one of the highest and most sustained wholesale van market performances, with record demand translating into record average sale values. Looking ahead to the last quarter of the year, I believe we will continue to see a very healthy and robust market.’
The record-breaking Manheim CV sale at Gloucester included vans from ALD, Citroen, Inchcape Fleet Solutions, Northgate and Peugeot as well as other local dealers, councils and businesses.
