Medway Norse switches to winter tyres with HiQ Medway Tyres

Medway Norse, part of Norse Group, is fitting its vehicles with Goodyear’s Cargo UltraGrip 2 winter tyres due to the unpredictable driving conditions in winter. The tyres combine a high load-carrying capability with outstanding traction on winter roads, with a tread pattern that features extra biting edges for ice and snow. The directional tread grooves also quickly shed water, reducing the risk of aquaplaning on rain-soaked or thawing roads.

Operations Director Ian Price said: ‘As temperatures drop below 7 degrees Celsius its important our vehicles maintain the same level of performance when it comes to grip and braking, whether in cold wet, icy or snowy conditions. We are also switching our fleet of ground maintenance vehicles to winter tyres, to ensure we are able to back up any emergency gritting provision in Medway.’

HiQ Medway Tyres is storing the summer tyres of the Medway Norse fleet and will switch the fleet back to its summer tyres once the winter season is over.

Peter Watts, owner of HiQ Medway Tyres, added: ‘Winter tyres can seem like a big investment for fleets. However for fleets like the one Medway Norse operates, it’s imperative it can offer a safe and reliable service all year round. Winter tyres enable a fleet to keep its vehicles on the road, safely, throughout the winter season no matter what the conditions.

‘And because the fleet’s summer tyres are being stored, Medway Norse will get greater value from these tyres in the longer term.’

Ian Price concludes: ‘We feel well prepared for whatever the winter season may throw at us, and crucially we can ensure a safe and reliable service to our customers throughout the winter months.’
