Mercedes upgrades eVito to 66kWh battery and rapid charging

Mercedes has introduced an upgraded version of its eVito electric van, featuring a larger battery and rapid charging along with a new Premium trim line.

The new eVito is available to order now, priced from £43,600

Available to order now, it’s priced from £43,600, excluding VAT and the Plug-in Van Grant, and starts first deliveries in March.

The upgraded eVito features a new 66kWh lithium-ion battery that gives it a 162-mile range. This compares to 92 miles for the previous 41kWh version and makes the switch to electric far more feasible for businesses still running diesel vans.

The new battery also brings DC rapid charging capability with a maximum rate of 80kW. This gives a 10-80% charge in around 35 minutes, meaning a short stop to recharge can add some 105 miles of range.

Meanwhile, AC fast charging to 100% capacity takes 6.5 hours using an 11kW wallbox and approximately 20 hours using a regular domestic power outlet.

It’s powered by the same front-wheel drive powertrain as before, offering up to 116hp of power and 360Nm of torque.

As with previous eVito models, drivers can use gearshift paddles allow drivers to adjust the level of energy recovery when braking. But the new version also debuts a D-Auto recuperation mode, which determines whether the van should glide with least possible resistance, or decelerate and recover energy into the battery.

Payload allowance is up to 807kg with a maximum load volume of 6.6m3 and the cargo area is easily accessed via sliding doors on body sides of the vehicle, as well as from the rear.

As with its predecessor, the new eVito is available in the Progressive trimline which features standard specification including air conditioning, a ‘Comfort’ driver’s seat with heating,  reversing camera, and infotainment system with DAB radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A new enhanced specification Premium line also debuts. This adds styling features such as metallic paint with colour-coded bumpers, 17-inch alloy wheels, a chrome grille and a leather-covered steering wheel. It also gets parking sensors, front fog lights, electrically folding door mirrors and lumbar support for the seat.

All models get a seven-inch touchscreen with smartphone integration and a three-year subscription to the Mercedes Me app, which enables a variety of services, including remote charging, navigation incorporating public charge points, and live tracking and remote locking.

Drivers can also use the Mercedes Me app to programme cooling or heating of their van while it is charging, conserving battery life and maximising range.

Mercedes has also introduced four option packages, grouped into bundles starting at £432 and covering a Load Area Package, Technology Package Plus, Comfort Package Plus and Driver Assistance Package.

Mercedes-Benz Vans UK head of electric mobility, Kevin Ferris said: “Mercedes- Benz is leading the transition to electric mobility and the new e-Vito takes our electric vans range to the next level. This is an exceptional van that goes further, works harder and keeps businesses moving for longer.”

As with all Mercedes-Benz vans, the eVito comes with a three-year, unlimited mileage warranty, while battery cover extends to eight years or 160,000km. It also features double locks and a Thatcham Category 1-approved alarm, along with MobiloVan support with free, round-the-clock emergency roadside assistance including out-of-charge cover.
