Milk & More saves over £2m a year with EV shift

Milk & More has slashed more than £2m a year off its fleet operating costs by transitioning to electric vehicles, backed by Geotab solutions.

Milk & More is now saving more than £2m in annual fuel costs

The online grocery and milk delivery specialist started its shift to EVs in 2018, initially transitioning its delivery fleet from diesel vehicles to German-made EVs, known as Street Scooters. These were joined by LDV (Maxus) EV80 vans and the total fleet now includes some 500 EVs.

The full fleet is integrated with the Geotab Go telematics device. Together with Geotab partner LEVL Telematics, the solution delivers real-time telematics data to help the team actively optimise its fleet. The data supports the monitoring of driver behaviour, energy consumption, and the economic and environmental impact of the EV transition within its fleet.

By shifting to EVs, Milk & More is now saving more than £2m in annual fuel costs, while also reducing diesel consumption by 1.8 million litres and cutting 4,920 tonnes of CO2 emissions – all of which the company has been able to measure and track thanks to the power of the Geotab telematics data.

It’s also benefiting from customised reports available on the MyGeotab web-based fleet management software to incorporate safety behaviour metrics into driver toolbox talks. By improving driver behaviour and reducing harsh braking, acceleration, cornering, and speeding incidents, the company has achieved a 21% decrease in speeding occurrences – not only improving safety but also enhancing energy efficiency and extending EV range by 19%.

Andy Sandison, head of fleet for Milk & More, commented: “Geotab’s fleet management solution consolidates data from our diverse vehicle fleet, providing invaluable insights for our business. Prior to using telematics, we had little or no knowledge of our fleet or its performance. Now, we have access to every piece of data on fleet management, performance, driver behaviour and environmental impacts. The improvements have been nothing less than staggering.”

Looking ahead, Milk & More aims to provide customers with transparent information on the environmental benefits of its growing EV fleet using MyGeotab’s carbon emissions data.

David Savage, vice president, Geotab, UK & Ireland, commented: “Milk and More is a powerful example of how intelligent data can build powerful insights into a fleet’s performance. It is also the building block to a zero-carbon future. Milk and More is an example of how near real-time data can lay the groundwork for fundamental change in fleet performance and a reduced environmental impact.”
