The rail infrastructure operator recently acquired more than 300 VW commercial vehicles for its fleet, almost half of which is made up by the new Amarok pick-up trucks.
As part of a contract to Clarks Vehicle Conversions, Network Rail has specified the Amaroks be fitted with a Truckman top, delivered through Listers Volkswagen Commercials in Coventry, as well as lightweight lining kit and, in some cases, under floor racking for secure storage.
With the addition of the Truckman Utility Top, Network Rail’s Rapid Response Vehicles have the storage capacity and usability of a van while maintaining their ability to operate in off-road situations, such as providing railway track maintenance, without impacting on the ability to access tools and equipment.
Auto Styling Truckman introduced the Truckman Utility Top for the double cab VW Amarok models earlier this year and has created a bespoke version for Network Rail’s fleet.
Alongside the large, double-skin side doors, Auto Styling Truckman has added a glass rear door with a tinted window, which are all secured by double slam locks and allow flexible access to a large interior, multipurpose storage and workspace. The doors are designed to channel rain water away from the driver and vehicle contents when opened.
The Truckman Utility Top is also fitted with a switched rear-facing LED spot lamp and interior LED roof light, which is supported by the inclusion of a built-in electrical conduit for additional power requirements.
As part of the order, Auto Styling Truckman is also supplying 22 Truckman Classic hard tops with Double Side Access for Network Rail’s existing collection of Toyota Hilux single Cab pick-up trucks.
Steve Duffy, Network Rail business support manager, said: “The Truckman Utility Top adds a new dimension to the multipurpose benefits of our pick-up fleet. We are always keen to utilise British manufacturers in our supply chain and Auto Styling Truckman’s hard tops are part of our commitment to providing our team with the best products and support in the execution of their jobs.”
Auto Styling Truckman will be unveiling the Network Rail version of the Truckman Utility Top on the Volkswagen Amarok at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC, Birmingham 14-15 April.
