New £1.8m competition to fund Future of Freight and transport decarbonisation

A new £1.8m competition is now open to support latest developments in transport solutions including innovations in freight and decarbonisation of local transport.

The competition seeks solutions to challenges in the freight sector, plus new ways to decarbonise the local transport, aviation and maritime sectors

The latest round of funding via the Transport Research and Innovation Grant (TRIG) competition will award grants to businesses that seek to provide solutions to some of the transport sector’s most-pressing issues, including decarbonisation.

The competition, delivered by the Connected Places Catapult (CPC), is open to proposals such as innovative ideas that address the opportunities and challenges faced by the freight and logistics sector and its supporting services, as outlined in the Future of Freight plan.

It will also help drive innovations in decarbonisation of local transport systems and better use of artificial intelligence (AI) to make transport cheaper and quicker.

Other areas under focus include airport/maritime decarbonisation and ideas that combine AI, digital twins and/or digital connectivity together to enable a resilient transport system.

The latest round of the TRIG competition also provides an increased available grant amount per winner of up to £45,000 per project.

Previous grant winners including postal drones to connect remote communities and accessibility apps for train stations.
