New AI app can determine windscreen repair or replacement choices

Autoglass customers can now use an app to determine whether windscreen damage requires a full repair or replacement – removing the need for initial appointments.

A windscreen repair is cheaper, faster and greener than a replacement

Launched following successful trials, the app makes use of the latest Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to assess the severity of vehicle glass damage and instantly evaluate whether a repair or replacement is needed before the work is passed to a technician.

The app uses technology from Service Certainty imageproof and is already processing up to 2,500 images a week with over 80% accuracy – with the figure rising as the technology improves.

Further applications for AI are being considered, including assessing the need for ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) calibrations after a windscreen repair or replacement.
