New AI-powered camera system to prevent unsafe driving behaviours

Leading vehicle CCTV and telematics supplier Centrad has launched a new driver-facing camera system using artificial intelligence to help stop dangerous driving behaviours.

Centrad’s new Driver’s Guardian solution uses driver-facing cameras to proactively detect risky driving behaviours

Its new Driver’s Guardian solution draws on AI to proactively detects risky driving behaviours while out on the road and clamp down on them. These include not wearing a seatbelt, drowsy driving and distracted driving habits.

The system also provides audible safety warnings to drivers and real-time alerts to fleet managers, enabling them to help prevent accidents.

Fleet managers also have the option of receiving real-time alerts notifying them of incidents. Furthermore, operators can access historical footage of harsh driving to review and enhance driver behaviour as well as utilise key metrics to encourage best practice.

Geoff Cross, managing director at Centrad, commented: “Our mission was to create a cutting-edge system that merged the most enhanced form of vehicle CCTV systems with AI to give operators a high-tech solution that focuses on accident prevention as well as evidence collection.

“Having operated my own fleet prior to Centrad, the pressure for operators to ensure their drivers are driving safely while out on the road is significant. With distracted driving on the rise, legislation tightening and driving penalties becoming more severe, drivers today have never been more in the spotlight. Therefore, providing that extra layer of protection not only keeps fellow road users safe, but also ensures the security and wellbeing for both drivers and their vehicle.”

The Driver’s Guardian camera can be used as standalone camera or integrated with Centrad’s range of mobile DVRs (digital video recorders) for full 360-degree coverage of the vehicle, supporting up to 11 other cameras.

Cross added: “We predict Driver’s Guardian will become a vital component to a fleet operator’s risk mitigation strategy and will furthermore pave the way to ensuring road incidents as a result of distracted or fatigued driving become extinct.”
