Bristol City Council has introduced a new CNG-powered Iveco Daily to its library van fleet, significantly reducing harmful emissions while also delivering fuel savings.
The van is being used to distribute books between the council’s 27 libraries across the city, providing an important service to constituents.
Based on a 7-tonne Daily CNG van with twin rear wheels, the vehicle runs on 100% renewable bio-CNG, enabling it to access the Bristol Clean Air Zone without paying a daily fee. It’s also expected to deliver fuel cost savings over its estimated 7,000-mile annual mileage.
Thanks to the Daily’s strong truck-based chassis, large crates containing thousands of books can be loaded, reducing the number of journeys required. Loading and unloading is made easier thanks to Iveco Air-Pro intelligent pneumatic suspension which can adjust the load height. This height can then be stored by the vehicle to save time and aid convenience for return trips.
The Air-Pro suspension also helps deliver greater refinement and comfort for the driver, reducing vibrations by up to 25% and lowering roll angles through bends by up to 30%.
The Daily also features City Mode, which dramatically reduces steering effort at low speed, and comes with Hi-Comfort seats with memory foam seat cushion, back and headrest.
Mike Cutts, business line director full range UK & ROI, said: “CNG vehicles are a great solution to dramatically reduce emissions, and a viable alternative available today. Bristol City Council’s new library van takes advantage of the Daily’s innate strength and this CNG’s decarbonisation benefits.”
