New online training course tackles safe van driving

A new online training course is now available from Logistics UK to help ensure the four million vans on the UK’s roads are being driven safely.

David Jordan, deputy operations director of services at Logistics UK

Launched officially today at the ITT Hub event, the e-learning course is available to Logistics UK members and non-members alike.

It provides van drivers with a comprehensive overview on how to operate a van safely, ranging from driver fatigue and the rules of the road, to defensive driving to vehicle roadworthiness. It also explains how to identify and report possible vehicle defects.

Modules also cover what powers the enforcement authorities have and give advice on fuel efficiency and safe loading.

David Jordan, deputy operations director of services at Logistics UK, said: “All van drivers are legally responsible for the roadworthiness of the vehicle they operate; along with their employer, they would be liable for prosecution if found to be operating a defective van. It is vital that anyone driving a van – whether using it to carry tools, equipment and materials, deliver goods, or to transport others – is aware of this responsibility and takes every possible step to ensure they are operating their vehicle safely and legally.”

The course is available to purchase for £9.95 per use for Van Excellence Accredited Operators, £12.95 per use for members of Logistics UK and £17.95 per use for non-members.
